'Pyeongchang's Grand Gathering 2018 - A Celebration of Winter Sport'

The winter games is an event that captures the world's attention. This year the world turns to Pyeongchang, South Korea -  the host of the games.

Students at all grade levels and in all subject areas can become part of the winter sports experience by participating in activities found in three integrated Newspaper in Education units.

In addition to acquiring knowledge and skills addressed in the Ontario curriculum, students will develop an appreciation and understanding of key factors that make this competition unique: the skill and dedication of the athletes, the demonstration of national pride, the highly technical equipment and the natural features of Pyeongchang and the Taebaek Mountains.

The Hamilton Spectator anchors the units and is the basis of resource support.

The grade 4-6 and the grade 7-8 resource are linked to expectations in language arts, math, science and technology, social studies, geography, health and physical education. assessment tools, and blackline masters are included to support student learning.

In the grade 9-12 resource, students apply literacy skills in subject specific tasks to explore the athletic games. Activities are offered within the subject areas of English, geography, health and physical education, meat and science.
